The name Peekskill comes from a blend of Peek's surname and the Dutch translation of the word stream, kill or even kil.



THE HISTORY OF PEESKILL

Peekskill, also known as The City of Peekskill, is a city in Westchester County, New York. Peekskill is set on a cove along the east side of the Hudson River, opposite Jones Point. The population was 23,583 during the 2010 registration. 


The region was an early American modern place, essentially for iron furrow and stove items. The akers of Crayola items, The Binney & Smith Company, began as the Peekskill Chemical Company in 1864 at Annsville. Peekskill's assembling base worked well into the late twentieth century with the Fleischmann Company making variety of yeast products under the Standard Brands name.

PEEKSKILL GEOGRAPHY:

The City of Peekskill is located in the northwestern part pf Westchester County, in the suburbs of New York City, north of the Bronx. As indicated by the United States Census Bureau, the city area is about 5.5 square miles (14 km2), 4.3 square miles (11 km2) of which being made of land and 1.1 square miles (2.8 km2) or 20.99% of water. The neighboring Cortlandt is located in Peekskill's easter side and its western and Hudson River is it's western border.

PEEKSKILL EDUCATION:

Up until the 1999 school year, every understudy went to the school nearest to their home, starting from kindergarten and up to from fifth grade. In 1999, the primary schools were coordinated, each school lodging two evaluations. In 2009, the new Peekskill Middle School forced a move in the areas of evaluations once more and thus moved evaluations 1 to 5 around. Meanwhile the high school serves grades 9-12.

Peekskill contains a few parks and amusement parks which include Charles Point, with narrows and waterway sees; Depew Park with pools and a lake, ballfields and trails. The city is also home to the Recreation Department.

TOURISM IN PEEKSKILL

Within Katonah, there are a number of activities that visitors can partake in to make the most of their experience. There are a number of parks and reservations around the hamlet that give tourists places to enjoy themselves in nature and take part in activities ranging from biking to bird watching. The extensive history of the town can be viewed by taking a trip to John Jay State Historic Homestead (who was the first chief justice of the United States) or touring the commercial and residential sites connected to Katonah’s storied past. Along with the historical aspect, those interested in music and art can visit a number of the area’s museums or music halls such as Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts.
